Four seasons Wine Trail 2013 at The Conclave, Kolkata

A structured Wine Trail event was organized by Four Seasons Wines Limited, UB group on 6th july,2013 at the Conclave, Kolkata. This was a wine tasting event with bloggers of Kolkata and also a wine awareness initiative on behalf of Four Seasons. The 3hours long event was conducted by Mr. P.P.K.Mitter with informative videos and power point presentations to make the guests aware about various wines produced by Four Seasons in India and their vine yards, wine making process, wine serving tips and last but not the least, How to taste wine!!

As the new world wine making country Indian wine market is revolving and the quality of Indian wines are at par with the international standards. Four Seasons Wines Limited produces wines from grapes grown around Sahyadri valley in Maharashtra, India and at its state-of-the-art Four Seasons winery near Baramati, around 65 kms from Pune. We were shown the total process of wine making staring from the grapes collection to bottling using video clips.

Coming to the wine tasting round we were offered 5 types of wines  with complimentary food.  Among these were Chenin Blanc, Sauvignon Blanc, Viognier , 3 types of White Wines in India produced by Four Seasons. Rose’ wine is rosy red in color and is named Blush. Among red wines in India there are Shriaz, Marlot, Cabernet Sauvignon. Two reserved range red wines are Barrique Reserve Cabernet Sauvignon and Barrique Reserve Shiraz. All these Indian wines pair well with Indian foods. Red wines should be paired with red meat, and white wine with white meat, fish and salads.

The wines can be classified in various category such as:
·         Sparkling wine/ still wine/ Fortified wine
·         White wine/ Red wine/ Rose’ wine
·         Dry wine/Off-dry wine/ sweet wine
In dry wine there is no sweetness, where is off dry means a little sweetness in wine.

Some basic facts about wine serving temperature:
·         Sparkling wine/Sweet wine: 6-8⁰C
·         White/ Rose’ wine: 8-12⁰C
·         Red wine: 12-14⁰C
·         Fortified wine: 17⁰C

Responsible drinking :  savour your wine
How to enjoy wine to its fullest!!
·         Understand the wine while drinking: knowing where its unique character comes from makes drinking the more pleasurable.
·         Drink slowly: take the time to savour the wine’s distinctive taste.
·         Accompany wine with good food: enjoy wine that complements your meals, alongside a glass of water. Remember wine causes dehydration!!
·         Regular consumption of small amounts of wine is preferable to binge drinking large amounts on a single occasion.
·         Do not exceed the guidelines for moderate, low-risk consumption of alcoholic beverages.

Wine being the most natural alcohol is made from grapes(sugar) and yeast and contains 12% alcohol per 100ml.
Coming back to the event it was a nice learning experience for me and we were honored by wine appreciation certificates. To know more about Four Seasons wines visit their official website: http://www.fourseasonsvineyards.com
